Marine Protected Areas & Coral Regeneration

Founded in 2015, Blue Alliance manages and finances large-scale Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the most biodiverse places on earth to ensure their long-term conservation. They work with governments to establish MPAs in the world's most fragile and important ecosystems in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Zanzibar. Their science-based approach regenerates coral reefs, protects biodiversity, and improves the livelihoods of coastal communities through long-term, local solutions.

These are not paper parks—in fact, they often take over paper parks to implement state-of-the-art conservation, compliance, and resource management in collaboration with local the government, police, and navy. Each MPA is performance-driven, grounded in field data, and monitored through clear, science-backed impact metrics— their KPIs include fish biomass, coral reef regeneration, restored mangroves, and local livelihood impact.

We support them because of their model: the money we donate is used as seed money to launch the MPAs. They then deploy sustainable, revenue-generating reef-positive businesses eventually capable of covering 80% of the MPA’s running costs. Through this model, eventually, these MPAs become self-sustaining, meaning any new donations go to developing new MPAs—an incredibly virtuous circle.
