Introducing our partner: Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas

Imagine a world where 80,000 local fishers earn a sustainable income, where communities thrive, and where 5% of globally essential coral reefs, once threatened, are teeming with life by 2030. This is not just a dream, it is the vision of Blue Alliance: regenerating entire marine ecosystems while building resilient local economies, proving that ocean regeneration and human prosperity can go hand in hand.

And this is not a distant vision. It is already happening.

Since 2015, Blue Alliance has, silently, away from the spotlight, been building one of the most ambitious ocean restoration models on the planet — with a bold objective:
to protect 25% of the world’s coral reefs by 2050.

Today, they are already:

  • Managing over 3 million hectares of Marine Protected Areas across Indonesia, the Philippines, and Tanzania

  • Representing ~1.5% of the world’s coral reefs under active recovery

  • Protecting 70+ threatened marine species

  • Supporting 80,000 coastal community members through improved livelihoods

  • Developing reef-positive businesses that generate sustainable local income

And this is accelerating fast — with a target of 9 million hectares by 2030 and 70 million hectares by 2050.

Protecting reefs where it matters most

Coral reefs are among the most vital ecosystems on Earth — yet also among the most threatened.

Beyond climate change, reefs are being destroyed every day by illegal and destructive fishing practices:
dynamite fishing, poison, compressor diving, and illegal nets.

These practices can wipe out decades of ecosystem growth in minutes.

Blue Alliance focuses on large-scale Marine Protected Areas in regions where biodiversity is highest

By reducing these local pressures, reefs are given the conditions they need to recover, regenerate, and build resilience to global challenges.

MPAs are arguably the most cost efficient and most effective solution to regenerate ocean life.

A radically different model: making MPAs self-sustaining

One of the biggest failures in ocean conservation is not creating MPAs — it’s keeping them properly funded and enforced over time

Blue Alliance has built a model that solves this.

Their approach turns conservation into a self-sustaining system

  • Initial funding (including Ocean Beer’s contributions) acts as seed capital to launch MPAs

  • Blue Alliance then develops reef-positive businesses within each area, such as:

  • Community-based aquaculture (e.g. sea cucumber farming)

  • Ecotourism

  • Blue carbon projects

These activities generate revenue that can cover up to 80% of MPA operating costs, reducing dependence on external donors.

The result is a powerful flywheel:

  • MPAs become financially sustainable

  • Communities gain long-term income

  • Ecosystems recover

  • And every new donation can fund new protected areas — not just maintain existing ones

We love the idea of slowly but surely building solutions that genuinely have the potential to be scaled, that are financially sustainable, replicable, and very cost-efficient.

Measurable, science-backed impact

Blue Alliance’s work is built on rigorous measurement and accountability

  • Quarterly KPI reporting tracks progress on the ground

  • Impact is independently certified by the foundation of the French CNRS

  • - France’s leading national research body

  • Projects operate under strict scientific oversight

This ensures that every euro translates into real, measurable ocean impact — not just good intentions.

Why this partnership matters

At Ocean Beer, 100% of profits are dedicated to ocean protection

  • Half of the funds generated globally support Blue Alliance’s Marine Protected Areas.

  • The other half supports local ocean projects in each country where the beer is brewed — creating a powerful global + local impact loop

This partnership is central to our model because:

  • Well-managed MPAs are one of the most effective tools to restore ocean health at scale

  • Blue Alliance combines science, community impact, and financial sustainability

  • Their model ensures that every contribution creates new impact, not just maintenance

Together, we turn everyday consumption into tangible action.

Each 33cl Ocean Beer protects 210m² of ocean for one year.

The power of collective action

Each Ocean Beer carries this mission.

Each pixel on the label represents:

  • One beer

  • One action

  • One piece of ocean protected

On its own, one beer may feel small.

But multiplied across millions of people, it becomes something extraordinary.

If every beer sold globally were an Ocean Beer, we could single-handedly fund the protection of 30% of the ocean — the United Nations’ 2030 goal.

Ambitious? Yes
Impossible? Everything is impossible until it’s done.

More than a beer

Imagine a world where every purchase is part of the solution – not the root of all our planetary problems.

Ocean Beer is not just a product.

It is a simple, scalable idea:
How can we turn everyday purchasing choices into powerful tools for regeneration.

By supporting Blue Alliance, we are helping build a future where:

  • The ocean recovers

  • Communities thrive while leaving behind destructive practices of the past

  • Conservation becomes financially sustainable – and self-sustaining.

One beer at a time.
