Advancing Ocean Governance for the UNOC-3
Ocean Born Foundation distributed part of its 2024 profits to Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean, a global movement that advocated for a bold shift in how we protect the ocean. The initiative promoted the Protection Principle—making ocean protection the default and requiring any activity at sea to prove it caused no harm.
Far beyond an idea, this movement mobilized scientists, policymakers, artists, and civil society to shape international commitments for the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC-3), held in Nice in June 2025. Through open consultations, publications, and advocacy, Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean worked to influence the Nice Ocean Action Plan, ensuring that ocean health became a central pillar in global decision-making.
By funding this initiative, Ocean Born Foundation aimed to contribute to:
Systemic change in ocean governance – promoting laws and policies that prioritized protection over exploitation.
Collaborative action – bringing together 100+ organizations to present concrete solutions on biodiversity, pollution, and sustainable ocean use.
Public awareness and education – empowering individuals and organizations to demand stronger commitments for our shared ocean.
This project reflected our mission to not only restore ecosystems but also transform the rules that govern them, ensuring long-lasting protection for marine life and the communities that depend on it.
