Ocean Beer is an award-winning beer brewed to protect the ocean. 100% of its profits fund ocean restoration, from the deployment of Marine Protected Areas globally to local conservation initiatives along the coastlines where the beer is brewed and enjoyed. The brand is owned by Ocean Born Foundation, a certified non-profit, which structurally guarantees that every euro of profit goes back to the ocean.
-
For two reasons.
The first is a hard fact. The ocean is in critical danger, yet its protection is dramatically underfunded. Less than 3% of its surface is effectively protected, and around €150 billion per year is missing to restore its health, making ocean protection the least-funded Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations. We wanted to build a large-scale funding mechanism that turns an everyday gesture into concrete action for the ocean, and beer happens to be one of the most consumed products on the planet. If every beer sold worldwide each year were an Ocean Beer, the brewing industry alone could fund the protection of 30% of the ocean surface, matching the UN's 2030 target.
The second reason is more personal. Beer is a powerful social connector that brings people together across cultures, generations and backgrounds, which is exactly the kind of collective mobilisation the ocean needs. Sharing a beer is also an invitation to slow down and talk about what matters. With an Ocean Beer in hand, we wanted to create a small daily moment to think about our blue planet: its beauty, its fragility, and our shared responsibility to protect it.

We combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do—it’s how we do it that sets us apart.Ocean Beer operates under a licensing model with its brewing partners. Each brewery pays Ocean Born Foundation a royalty on every beer sold, and this royalty constitutes the foundation's profits. 100% of it is directed to ocean protection and restoration, and the non-profit status of the foundation structurally guarantees this reallocation.
We also keep our operating costs to a strict minimum, so that the profits we give back represent around 70% of our revenues. Concretely, this means that for every €1 of royalty Ocean Born Foundation receives, roughly 70 cents fund ocean protection directly, while the remaining 30 cents cover the essential costs of running the foundation and growing the brand so we can protect more ocean tomorrow.
Our profits donation is split into two equal streams:50% funds the deployment and management of Marine Protected Areas in some of the world's most biodiverse and most threatened marine regions, through our partnership with the NGO Blue Alliance.
50% funds local ocean protection and restoration initiatives in each country where Ocean Beer is brewed and enjoyed.

Each format has a certified impact figure printed on the label:
Every 33cl bottle protects 210 m² of ocean for one year
Every 44cl can protects 280 m² of ocean for one year
Every 50cl can protects 320 m² for one year
Every 75cl bottle protects 480 m² for one year
Put simply, every litre of Ocean Beer sold funds the protection of 640 m² of ocean for a full year.
-
The per-square-metre calculation comes from Blue Alliance, our partner NGO that actively deploys and manages the Marine Protected Areas we fund. Their full annual operating cost is divided by the total surface they are able to protect, which gives a precise cost of protecting one square metre for one year. The recovery of these ecosystems is then monitored and independently certified by experts from the Fondation CNRS, the foundation of France's largest fundamental research agency.

We choose brewing partners in each country on three criteria:
Brewing excellence. We only work with breweries recognised for the quality of their beers, with international awards to show for it.
Environmental commitment. Our partners actively work to reduce their footprint, whether through local sourcing, responsible water and energy management, or waste reduction. Our French partner Brasserie des Sources, for example, modernised its facilities in 2024 with solar panels, methanisation of spent grain into local renewable gas, and reusable bottle lines.
Mission alignment. Our partners accept to adapt their economic model so that we can honour the 100% profit promise.

Ocean Beer is currently brewed in three countries:
In France, by Brasserie des Sources in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (Hauts-de-France)
In Germany, by Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle in Brandenburg
In the Canary Islands (Spain), by Cervecería Isla Verde on La Palma
Brewing will start in the United Kingdom very shortly, and we are working on the launch of Ocean Beer in several other markets across Europe and beyond for 2027.

We offer three products to our brewing partners: a Lager, an IPA and a 0.0%. Each brewery adapts them with its own expertise, local ingredients and the preferences of drinkers in its market. There is no strict recipe, but a shared aromatic profile and common quality standards across all countries.

Half of our profits is allocated at the end of each year to local ocean protection and restoration initiatives in each country where Ocean Beer is brewed and sold. Which projects receive that funding is decided by the Ocean Beer community: we shortlist a set of high-impact local initiatives and open the vote on our social channels, so that the people who make this impact possible also decide where it lands.
-
No. The whole idea behind Ocean Beer is that the beer itself funds ocean protection, rather than the drinker paying an extra fee on top. For this model to work, our brewing partners accept to reduce their margin to the strict minimum. This keeps Ocean Beer at an accessible price while maximising the share of each sale that goes back to the ocean.
